Amplifying Voices Through Community Storytelling
This published feature explores the work of Black Canadian Women in Action and their mission to create meaningful, year-round support for Black creatives in Edmonton. Through conversations with community members and local leaders, the story highlights the importance of representation, opportunity, and the creation of spaces where artists and entrepreneurs can thrive.
This project gave me the opportunity to combine research, interviewing, and storytelling to share a story that extends beyond a single event. Rather than simply reporting on the organization's work, I wanted to highlight the people behind the movement and the impact they continue to have on the community. My goal was to create a piece that informed readers while encouraging them to think about the importance of supporting local voices and celebrating diverse perspectives.
As a published feature for Edmonton Edge, this project challenged me to adapt my writing for a public audience while balancing factual reporting with meaningful storytelling. From conducting interviews and gathering information to organizing the story and refining the final piece, I gained valuable experience creating content that is engaging, informative, and community-focused.
